What is Capoiera?

It is a mixture of body and soul, of dance and fight, of instruments and voices. According to history, Capoeira was created by imported Africans on Brazilian soil. It evolved as a means of expression of the yearning for freedom and simultaneously as a form of entertainment.

Condemned and persecuted, capoeira managed to overcome the preconceptions of the beginning of the century and reach new horizons. It is considered one of the most comprehensive forms of physical conditioning and is an integrated balance of mind, strength, rhythm, poetry, agility, and harmony.It is the maximum expression of liberty and keeps the art of the ancestors alive, being part of Brazilian and now, world history.

Poi spinning and Capoeira have something in common, and that is putting yourself in a state of flow. It's really fun watching them as they perform while the others sing and play the instruments. I'm planning to enrol next month. Yay! :)

When Boredom Strikes

I made my own logo, yay! It's an ambigram of my nickname "ae" with a flame on top. When you look at the flame closely, it is actually my fire name "FUDO". The big question is, where or when I will use this logo? >_<

Anniburnsary Spin

Last August 08, 2010 was the birth of Fudo. He made fire as his main element and poi as his medium. After a year of mastering his craft he became good at it, though, he still has a lot of things to learn. Here's a sample video of his anniBURNsary spin :) enjoy!

My 10 seconds of fame =)

I just want to share you guys "my 10 seconds of fame" video. It happened during my volunteer training at Quirino Memorial Medical Center last march 2010. I was asked by the staff nurse if I want to be a TV extra in the soap opera "Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo". It is to be taken inside the hospital near our ward. Right then and there, without hesitation i replied, "sure, where is it?" haha =)
After fixin' my hair and removing the oil from my face. I suddenly got nervous and told myself, "what the heck i'm putting myself into?". But I have no choice, there's no turning back. I inhaled deeply and exhaled slowly to relax my myself, then got out of the toilet. Well good thing the crew told me that I have no lines to say. I just have to push the stretcher where the actor is lying and to act like a nurse(well that what i am :]) and that's all. It was such an awesome experience, to be able to get near the actors and to pretend like one of them too. :)

Today Marks My One Year Of Poi Dancing And Crazy Spinning

I can't believe that it has been a year since I first spin that pair of sock with a ball inside. I still remember how excited I am to try poi spinning, well it hit me couple of times... but I didn't quit. It makes me really happy whenever I learn a new move and show it off to my classmates. :) I want to thank my instructors, Roki Ferrer and Micmic Callo, for their patience in teaching me. It is still fresh in my mind when I had my first burn (First burn is when I am allowed to spin it with fire). It was scary at first, but after that you'll get addicted to it. It was a year of bruises and cuts, burned hair and blisters. >_<

People always ask me why my fire name is called Fudo. Fudo is a japanese deity, he is the god of fire and wisdom. I want to embody his fiery quality and wisdom not just in dancing but also in my everyday life.

I never thought that poi dancing would become a part of my life. It has become my hobby and my passion. It has given me so much... things that I never thought would happen, places i've been to, and friends i've met because of poi. :)

Crazee Pahiyas '11

I was there during the most awaited Pahiyas Festival in Lucban, Quezon. It's a feast held every 15th of May in honor to St.Isidore the farmer, the patron saint of harvest. It was my first time to visit that place, well thanks to my good friends, Chef Janjie Ocoma and Issa Collantes for letting us stay in their humble abode. I really felt their warm welcome and excitement to show what their place has to offer.

It was fun strolling around the streets of Lucban and watch the beautiful houses, which the local adorned with their produce such as fruits, vegetables, rice stalk and the colorful kiping.

Kiping is a colored rice wafer molded into the shape of a leaf which can be eaten after cooking. I had a chance to taste the cooked kiping, it's crunchy but tasteless so a sprinkle of sugar will do the job.

Another highlight of the festival is the parade - featuring the ADgiants or higantes, drum and lyre bands, street dancers, floats, Sunduan (lovely ladies and their escorts in Filipiniana costumes) and Parikitan (ladies in unique costumes made of indigenous materials).

What I also love is the gastronomic delights of Lucban. I was amazed to find good food at cheap prices. From pancit habhab to lucban langgonisa, which you can find along the streets. Then Salud's halo-halo, they told me it's better than Razon's, i'm a bit skeptic at first, but yea they prove me wrong. One of my favorite is the Kinulog, it's a pork dish and it has slight bitter taste that I really like. I bought Broas/ladyfingers for pasalubong, it's my favorite delicacy from Lucban, it goes well with coffee. :)

A day at Lucban is not enough, I still have lots of thing to discover and food to taste. I will be back next year! :)

Nothing beats the serenity of this place. It's the perfect escape from the metro where you'll find peace and tranquility. I have been in this place for a couple of times now, but there is something in this island that pulls me back over and over again.

Maybe it's the fine white sand, where your feet is happy to step on it or the clear turquoise sea, where you see everything beneath. Maybe it's the heat of the sun, where you don't care anymore if you get a tan or i think it's the scenery, the breath taking view of the island... Or maybe all of these, everything in that island that makes me wanna come back. It's the place to be this summer. The best place to enjoy, relax and unwind. :)

It's really hard when we have to decide on things that we don't know what the outcome would be. Will the result be good or bad? Will it lead us to the right path that we wanted? Sometimes we choose the right one, but at times we choose the wrong option. This may affect huge part of your life. But it doesn't end there, because life will offer you another choice, to stand up and make things right, or to never fight for it.

It feels so good to relax and watch the colorful lights in the sky. It is such a great feeling.. amazed by how the fireworks dance with the music..

Now I have something to look forward to every Saturday. Yey! Me and my family never miss this event. We've been been waiting for this every year and we are all excited ^_^
